What Everyone Needs To Know About Plantar Fascitis

Do you feel pain in your feet after you exercise or early in the morning? If so, you may have a condition that is referred to as plantar fasciitis. Perhaps the pain does not occur every morning or after every workout. This may have you thinking that the pain you experience is not serious. However, if you have plantar fasciitis, it can worsen if it is not treated. It starts as a minor condition, but it can become chronic if it is not treated. There are a number of treatment options. The following points will help you to understand more about this condition.

Feet

Plantar fasciitis usually affects individuals who have high-arches or flat feet. Individuals who exercise often are also at risk for this condition even if their arches are normal.

Contributing Factors

Perhaps you have a job that involves standing for long hours. This can put you at risk for developing this condition. Overweight individuals are also at risk. If you stand for long periods of time, orthotics or orthopedic shoes can benefit you. If you are overweight, consider losing weight. If you are diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, ensure you avoid walking barefoot. This is because it can further aggravate the condition. There are open-toe shoes that resemble flip-flops that provide arch support and are comfortable to wear when you are home or at a location such as a beach.

Treatment Options

There are numerous treatment options. Surgery is usually the last resort because it is considered invasive. Initially, NSAIDs may be used to treat the pain along with a treatment such as an orthotic. Some people still experience pain. This will result in a more aggressive approach. Orthotic shoe inserts may be ordered. These provide support to the arch and allow wearers to continue to wear their own shoes. Sometimes special shoes need to be ordered. Steroid shots may also be administered to relieve pain.

A podiatrist is a good resource to use to determine if you have plantar fasciitis. They can also determine the best treatment option for you based on the condition of your feet. Avoid trying to self-treat with over-the-counter medications without seeing a doctor. This is because the medications can contraindicate with other medications you may be taking. It is also possible that your condition may worsen. For example, the quality of the orthotics sold in stores are generally not as good as prescribed orthotics. About Me

I have always loved walking and running, but after I started developing foot problems, I knew that I had to do something different. I was dealing with daily pain, and it was really discouraging. I knew that if I wanted to continue doing what I loved, I needed to focus more carefully on my foot health. To take the guess work out of the process, I turned to the professionals at a podiatry practice for help. They helped me with everything from toe stretches to shots to loosen the muscles of my foot, and it was absolutely incredible to feel the difference.
